Portable Air Compressors- There's One For You
When it comes to air compressors, the market can be a little overwhelming. There are so many makes and models that it can be a major decision just to decide where to start looking, let alone narrowing down your options, and, dare I say it, eventually even buying one. There are dozens of styles to choose from, so the first step is to decide what you will be mainly using it for. But first, what exactly can you use it for? We are going to go through exactly that, and by the end of this article, not only might you just be so convinced that you need an air compressor that you want to go out and buy one today, but you will hopefully also have a good introduction to them so you will be ready to buy one today, if the urge strikes.
Of course, the major benefit to air compressors is that they run air tools. And what is the benefit of air tools, you might ask? What is not a benefit of air tools? I would respond. And really, I have yet to find a downside to these little guys. First of all, they let you do everything that electric tools do, just better. Because they are so long lasting, they are cheaper than electric tools. And air tools are lighter than their electric counterparts. Because of these miracle tools, your projects can be done faster and cheaper than before, thus saving you both money and time, and giving you more time to do what you really want to be doing, even if that just means starting another project! Your air tools will last you through a countless number of projects, so you will pretty much never need to worry about wearing them out. This is because each air tool doesn't have its own little motor like it would if it were electric; instead, the motor is in the air compressor, which is where the tool gets its power. Its because they do not have their own motor that they are lighter, and thus easier to handle. Air tools also run cooler than electrics, so the risk of fire or electric shock is much lower, and if there does happen to be an air leak, it is not going to be releasing any dangerous contaminants, so they are really safer all around. They have a relatively small number of moving parts, meaning they are easy to maintain and will not wear out or break often. Air compressors are also perfect for quickly inflating tires and toys, and I mean much more quickly than your standard inflator.
An important aspect to consider when you are looking at portable air compressors is how big of a tank size you will need. Somewhat paradoxically, if you want a really long, continuous running time, you will actually want a smaller tank with a big pump and motor instead of a bigger tank. Naturally, this will mean an increase in price too, so before shelling out the money for that, decide if you will really be using it often enough to justify it. Of course, if you will be getting a lot of use out of it, it will more than pay for itself, so it is really just a question of your intentions. And don't worry, it's not the kind of intentions that will be judged by a wary father with a shotgun demanding you to have it back by ten o clock, or else. Nope, this decision is all yours.
That being said, for a starting point, portable air compressors are usually a great choice. They are, obviously, portable, and this is key if you have a lot of different projects to use it for. Trust me, you do not want to get stuck trying to make a large unit "portable." It does not result in fun for anyone involved, unless there is someone with a video camera who can run faster than you.
