4x4 Recovery Equipment
The whole principle behind taking your four wheel drive out into the bush is to find places that are great to stay at and enjoy. Four wheel driving is all about driving through conditions that a normal car wouldn't dream of. When you see a creek crossing, or some rocks that you have to drive over you can have the confidence that your four wheel drive isn't going to get stuck. However, inevitably, you will get stuck at some stage. When this does happen, its important that you have the equipment to get out safely, and the knowledge of how to use them. There are a lot of different types of recovery equipment, ranging from under 50 dollars right through to the thousands! 4x4 Winches are a common modification for your four wheel drives and these will get you out in most situations. However, they are expensive and they do require maintenance.
Maxtrax are a very solid plastic product that you wedge under the vehicles wheels. You then drive onto them and become unstuck very quickly. Snatch straps are commonly used, but you need another vehicle and rated recovery points to get out. In general, if you can avoid getting stuck in the first place you will be better off. This can be done by picking the right Tyre Pressures and picking the right line. A Tire Deflator is something that you should never go into the bush without, as with a compressor. Most importantly though, find out how to use the recovery equipment and use it safely!
